Toronto has been embracing composer Jason Robert Brown as of late, with Parade (Acting Up Stage/Studio 180 Mark) just having a fantastic run at The Berkeley Street Theatre and Songs for a New World set to open March 30th. We are thrilled to be announcing the talented cast for this new production.
Directed by Andrew Lamb (My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding), Songs for a New World will feature Erica Peck (We Will Rock You, Boys in the Photograph), Justin Bott (title of show), Denise Oucharek and Stewart McKensy.
The show is about one moment. About hitting the wall and having to make a choice. Travel from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge 57 stories above Fifth Avenue and meet a startling array of characters from a young man who has determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man she has been waiting for but a souless marriage. Songs for a New World features a brilling score of gospel-driven ballads, funky R&B and twisting love songs. Toronto is very excited to welcome another great Jason Robert Brown show to the city.
