AndrewLloydWebber.com explains that Canada is to be the next nation to answer the question "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?"

"Following the phenomenal success of 'How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?' in the UK, the search has begun to discover a bright new Maria for the forthcoming Canadian production of The Sound of Music."

The television-viewing public will have the responsibility of casting the lead role of Maria in the coming Canada production through an eight-party primetime series airing on CBC TV next summer.

Webber says "The role of Maria is pivotal to the success of The Sound of Music. It needs a performer with amazing vocal talent, compelling acting abilities and remarkable stage presence who also exudes youth and vitality."

The Sound of Music will be helmed by Director Jeremy Sams with choreography by Arlene Philips and designed by Robert Jones – all critically acclaimed for their work in the West End production.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, David Ian and David Mirvish will present the North American Premiere of the smash-hit London production of The Sound of Music at Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre beginning in September 2008.
