In memory of a boy who loved theatre, Hudson Village Theatre presents its third successful season of live, professional theatre for young audiences to spark new passions in boys and girls of all ages. This year, HVT features puppets, workshops, and stories born of ancient lore. The musical highlight is bound to be a children's story written and performed bilingually by the inimitable opera diva herself, Natalie Choquette.

CONFITURE THE DRAGON WHO LOVED FRUIT

Confiture the Dragon is fond of sweet things. One morning he sets out to look for his breakfast when he discovers Fruitland, a country rife with fruit of every kind cultivated by the local animals. The hungry dragon digs in and devours all the fruit. When the animals discover that their harvest has been eaten, Confiture hastens to repair the damage, inviting his new friends to discover a secret. An amusing tale in which children discover fruit while learning the importance of respecting nature and each other. Theatre de la Source draws inspiration from Oriental theatres and includes dancing, singing and music in its creations.

A fun and exciting workshop that taps into and expands children's imaginations. Using various theatre games, kids improve concentration and creativity, build life skills (listening, focusing, thinking on their feet), and learn problem solving techniques in a group dynamic. This is a wonderful vehicle to help shy children overcome their fears. Workshop facilitator, Mary Vuorela, director of the Hudson's annual Christmas Pantomime, has been teaching improvisation to adults and children for over 10 years. The cost is $15 per child.

There once was a peaceful place, where everyone lived happily together regardless of their likes or dislikes. That all changed when Empie, the Master Rule Maker, started to create rule upon rule. When Calliope finds out that wearing wings is no longer permitted, and Dex learns that flippers are not allowed either, they each decide that enough is enough. Empie pits the Wingeds and the Flippereds against each other, and thinking everyone is fooled but when Calliope and Dex realize it is Empie they must beat and not each other, the rules of the game change.

The Light Princess

The Light Princess is a fairy tale with a few twists. A spiteful witch, not invited to the princess's christening, curses her by taking away her ... gravity? No problem. The princess laughs, floats, and swims to her heart's content, barely noticing a handsome prince. But when the witch drains away all the water, and the prince offers himself as a plug, the princess must find a way to break the curse and rescue him. This funny, thought-provoking tale about bravery, unselfishness and making good choices reminds kids and adults alike of the importance of empathy and compassion.

In this bililngual show, Mimi the Diva and her Maestro Figaro are expected for their concert at the opera but Mimi doesn't feel well at all! She is suffering from indigestion from too much fast food. What should she do? Mimi and Figaro ask the audience to help them find the magic recipe to get the Diva back into singing shape. While naming wholesome ingredients, the children participate in a mini-opera, "The Magic Food" by Wolfyummy Amadelicious Mozarella. A bunch of greens, a dash of Verdi, a plate of fish a? la Bellini, a bowl of fruit, a glass of milk, and to keep strong our beating heart, we dance to Bizet and Mozart!
THE FAIRY CIRCUS

Featuring over twenty beautifully hand-crafted marionettes, The Fairy Circus is a showcase of turn-of-the-century-style trick puppetry. A solo puppeteer makes the puppets dance, play instruments, juggle, contort, transform, and fly through the air with the greatest of ease, all to the best-loved music of favorite composers. This show is perfect for young children and family audiences. The presentation includes a lively puppetry demonstration prior to the show, and a Q&A session afterwards.
