Toronto-based theatre company Breathe.Feel.Love announced today that its production of the cult rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch will make its return to Toronto tonight, January 9, 2013 for a three-week run at the Drake Underground.
"After a successful run of performances around central Canada, we are very excited to perform Hedwig for Toronto audiences again," said Seth Drabinsky, who plays Hedwig in Breathe.Feel.Love's production in addition to his role of director and co-producer. "This play speaks to the universality of love and the journey toward self-acceptance, two things we all can relate to."
Written by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask, Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a rock concert style musical that tells the story of transsexual bombshell Hedwig and her nonchalant indie band 'The Angry Inch'. The play centers around their tour across America in pursuit of Hedwig's former lover and world-famous pop star, Tommy Gnosis. Featuring an array of biographical interludes and eclectic music inspired by pop/rock icons of the 70s and 80s including David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Toni Tennille and Debbie Boone, this gender-bending production takes the audience through a tragic story of betrayal, emotional and physical sacrifice, and love.
Following a successful tour across Ontario and Manitoba in 2010, Breathe.Feel.Love's production of Hedwig performed to sold-out audiences at the 2011 Winnipeg Fringe Festival in addition to a very well-received one-night engagement at Montreal's Le National and a unique outdoor performance on the main stage of Ottawa's Capital Pride Festival.
