Berkeley Street Theatre Hosts 3rd Annual Fesitval of Ideas & Creation, 5/10-22

Canadian Stage announces the third annual Festival of Ideas & Creation at the Berkeley Street Theatre, 26 Berkeley Street, Toronto, from May 10 to 22, 2010.

The two-week festival features a dynamic line-up of more than 300 theatre luminaries and emerging artists - both national and international - in over 60 live events, most of them free of charge. Programming includes public readings of new works, public forums, industry workshops and artist intensives.

This year's Festival explores the themes of Translation and Adaptation emphasizing the use of language, image and cross-disciplines in the creation of performance-based work. Festival highlights include: public readings of over 30 new Canadian plays, translations and adaptations by award-winning artists such as Linda Griffiths, David S. Craig, John Murrell, Larry Tremblay, Leah Cherniak, Banuta Rubess and Carole Fréchette as well as exciting new voices such as Serge Boucher, d'bi.young anitafrika, Tara Beagan, Marjorie Chan, Nicholas Billon, and members of Canadian Stage's GYM Program; public conversations with landmark artists including Peter Hinton, Linda Gaboriau, Guy Mignault, John Van Burek, Soheil Parsa, and Artistic & General Director Matthew Jocelyn; artist intensives with acclaimed practitioners such as Bretta Gerecke, Stephen O'Connell, Shelley Tepperman and others; and youth presentations by Canadian Stage's Young Company, The Innovators Creation Program, Art in Leadership Program and others.

Curated by Festival Director Natasha Mytnowych and Associate Festival Director Claire Calnan, the Festival offers audiences the opportunity to explore theatre behind the scenes and participate in the creative process. It is Canadian Stage's flagship event promoting the development of artists and new works. It brings together local, national and International Artists to inspire new creative projects; it encourages the exchange of ideas between artistic disciplines; and it supports established artists while fostering the next generation of innovators. The Festival was founded in 2006.
