J. Elaine Marcos and other cast members from Toronto's newest hit musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert are hosting a very special event this Sunday, November 21st 2010 at Gladaman's Den in Toronto to benefit Casey House. Casey House was the first freestanding HIV/AIDS Hospice in Canada and has a mission to provide compassionate health care to people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
The evening plans to be full of fun and fabulous fun (Priscilla style!) and will feature many of J. Elaine's castmates from the show and possibly other surprise guests! There will also be a silent auction and door prizes, so come ready to give, ready to have fun, and ready to be fabulous!
J. Elaine took a few minutes to talk to BWW and explain the reasons behind this event:
You are hosting an event this Sunday night to benefit Casey House, can you tell us a little bit about the cause?
Yes, it's a concert that I like to say is a chance for people to do anything that they love to do. Sing any style, comedy, stand up .... magic....whatever! There is so much talent in the cast, and it's a chance for us to continue to do what we love to do which is perform live, in addition to benefiting Casey House. Casey House was the first freestanding HIV/AIDS hospice in Canada. They provide healthcare to people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
We understand that some of your Priscilla castmates will be joining you. Who can we expect to see and what kind of music do you have planned?
Nick Adams, Tony Sheldon, Jessica Phillips, Tad Wilson, Keala Settle , C. David Johnson and Mike McGowan are set to perform, but with a venue like this and James Quigley on the keys, you never know what might happen! If someone decides to get up and sing....I will pull them right up there on the stage.
Do you have any personal connections to Casey House?
BAck in NYC we do a lot of benefits for Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids and I wanted to do a similar benefit here but locally, and so I chose Casey House. In addition to the fact that my friend Michael Cress at the Casey House is so passionate about his work there, I felt the need to join him
Finally, since Priscilla is all about things fun and fabulous, what can people do to help make this event just as fun and fabulous?
I think as much as the cast is excited to perform, I think we are more excited to see the audience upclose and personal! Our audience members/fans have their own personality and I love it when they are also in drag or dressed to the nines!! As a host, it makes for a fun evening to really play off the crowd. Their energy and our energy on stage always makes for a great night.
