Suitcases is a new theatrical work, inspired by the 400+ patient suitcases unearthed upon the closing of the Willard Asylum in 1995. Originally workshopped at Canadian Stage in May, 2015, with director Rosanna Saracino, choreographer Linda Garneau, and a cast of 15 performers, the work was presented to a private audience of industry professionals.

This current full-length production features a cast of 21 performers, guest writers, and artists and will be running November 1st-November 6th, 2016 at the Artscape Sandbox.

Suitcases uses theatre, dance and movement to explore psychological and emotional dysfunction, and their impact on identity and memory. It is a love letter to anyone who has suffered in silence, and faced the consequences of stereotyping, judgment, isolation, secrecy, or fear. It is a tribute to anyone who has been persecuted for being "different". And finally, it is an expression of how hauntingly turbulent our secret lives may be, but also, of the unexpected community which can emerge when individuals find their tribe.

Suitcases is created, produced and directed by Rosanna Saracino. Co-Produced by Maighdlin Mahoney. Choreographed by Linda Garneau. Crew features Wardrobe Design by Katrina Carrier, Lighting Design by Bryan Steele.

Suitcases features text from some of Canada's leading artists. Confirmed so far, we welcome some new original text by Brad Fraser (a current nominee for the Governor General's Award), Eugene Stickland (this year's winner of the W.O. Mitchell Award), with others still waiting to be confirmed. Each writer was approached, introduced to the material and project, and offered to write guest pieces, which would be threaded into the text resulting from the rehearsal process.

The cast features twenty-one performers from emerging to established veteran performers. The cast includes: Tedde Moore*, Lawrence Bayne, Amaka Umeh, Thomas Duplessie*, Denise Norman*, Heath Salazar, Jill Agopsowicz, Sydney LaForme, Sofia Rodriguez, Luke Opdahl*, Luke Letourneau*, Corry Ng, Jensen Porter, Tyler Burton, Phoebe Hu, Arrielle Edwards, Hayley Matheson, Tee Schneider*, Christopher Kelk*, Casey Hudecki*, and Michael Dufays*. *actors appearing courtesy of Toronto Actor's Equity Association
