Art Of Time Ensemble Presents Festival Of Protest Music: ALL WE ARE SAYING ImageArt of Time Ensemble is proud to present All We Are Saying: An Abridged History of Protest Music, a festival-style concert featuring a program of protest music that spans musical genres and historical contexts. The festival, running Thursday May 10 to Saturday May 12, consists of two different programs of music over three nights at Harbourfront Centre Theatre: The Songs Program and The Classical & Folk Program.

The Songs Program, slated for May 10 and 12, features an astonishing lineup of performers including Juno Award-winning vocalist/blues guitarist Colin James (in his Art of Time Ensemble debut), superstar singers Jackie Richardson and Shakura S'Aida, and in-demand instrumentalists Rob Piltch (guitar), Lina Allemano (trumpet), Rob Carli and John Johnson (woodwinds), to name a few. The ensemble will perform a repertoire that draws from a deep pool of iconic songs including music by Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Buffy Sainte-Marie, John Lennon and Sam Cooke. The songs will be presented in original arrangements by top Canadian composers including Kevin Fox, Jonathan Goldsmith and recent Juno nominee Andrew Staniland.

The Classical & Folk Program on May 11 features a selection of exciting performances and music. The Rolston String Quartet, winners of the 2016 Banff International String Quartet Competition, perform George Crumb's dizzying Black Angels. Andy Maize and Josh Finlayson, of the beloved Toronto band Skydiggers, play songs by Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger and more, and Artistic Director Andrew Burashko performs an excerpt from Frederic Rzewski's The People United Will Never Be Defeated.

"I believe music has a unique ability to affect change; it can send a message to a wide audience in a way unlike any other medium," noted Mr. Burashko, in announcing the concert. "We are presenting a very broad range of musical genres and styles, performed by incredibly talented artists. It will be a show to remember, and an outstanding finale to our 19th season."
