Adapted by David Ives (Venus in Fur, A Flea in Her Ear), "Is He Dead?" is a rollicking, mad-cap collaboration. In mid 19th Century Paris, Jean-Francois Millet, a destitute painter of genius, is in love with Marie Leroux, but her father and Millet are both in debt to villainous art dealer Bastien Andre, who is threatening to send both men to debtors prison, unless Marie agrees to marry him. Realizing that dead painters sell better than their breathing contemporaries, Millet and his apprentices scheme to fake his death and reap the financial rewards, while passing Millet himself off as his fictional identical twin sister, The Widow Daisy Tillou. All goes well until Daisy becomes the object of many affections and Millet must find a way to get out of the dress, come back from the dead, and marry Marie.
The play features Derek Perks as Millet/Daisy, Stephen Flett as Bastien Andre, Laura Vincent as Marie, Daniel Staseff as "Chicago", Chris Wakelin as "Dutchy", Tim O' Connell as O'Shaughnessy, Sandra Yeomans as Cecile, Douglas Tindal as Papa Leroux , and featuring Deborah Perry and Maureen Lukie as Madames Caron and Bathilde and Sam Polito as the Supporting Cast. The play is directed by Michael Hiller, responsible for such shows as "A Chorus of Disapproval" and "Nunsense" at Amicus, "The Odd Couple" for Scarborough Players, "Nuts" and "Beyond Therapy" for the Village Players
