Alumnae Theatre Company's 2016-17 season opens with THIS, a 2010 play written by Canadian-born, New York City-based playwright and House of Cards showrunner Melissa James Gibson, running from Friday, September 16 until Saturday, October 1, 2016.
The New York Times called THIS a "beautifully conceived, confidently executed and wholly accessible work" and the best new play to open off-Broadway in 2010.
Four old college friends-widowed single mother Jane (Amanda Jane Smith), jazz singer and new mother Marrell (Audra Gray) and her husband Tom (Andrew Batten), together with their gay mnemonist friend Alan (Michael Harvey) find themselves reaching middle age and wondering where life will take them. Added to this mix is the handsome French MSF doctor Jean-Pierre (Christian Martel), who observes and brings perspective to their struggles.
"Balanced on The Edge between comedic and painful, THIS dives into the anxieties and insecurities of five messy, imperfect--real-people," explains director Rebecca Ballerina.
Director Rebecca Ballarin and show designers Daina Valiulis (costumes) and Kelly Anderson (sound) will be doing a pre-show talk at 6:45pm Thursday, September 22.
