This December, Pencil Kit Productions premiers The Hungriest Woman in the World by Toronto poet-playwright Shannon Bramer. Just in time for the holiday season (and the holiday blues), The Hungriest Woman in the World follows a woman who inadvertently escapes from the confused loneliness of her real life into an audacious, seductive world of theatre and art. Her evening at the theatre tumbles into absurdity with dancing octopuses, overly intimate strangers and drunken mistakes.
The first show of Pencil Kit Production's 17/18 season, The Hungriest Woman in the World follows in the footsteps of hit shows Persephone (Toronto Fringe 2016) and Shadow Girls (Rhubarb Festival 2017). Playwright Bramer comes into this production hot off the September release of her most recent book of poetry, Precious Energy. ("Shannon Bramer writes with a candor that is as clever as it is devastating [...] drawing the domestic into utter sublimity." -Robin Richardson). Performed in a transformative, glimmering set full of surprises designed by visual artist Jessica Hiemstra, you can expect bold, physical and visually striking staging from Grosz (My Entertainment World's Outstanding Direction 2015).
The Hungriest Woman in the World runs December 6-17at the Theatre Passe Murialle Backspace: Wednesdays to Saturdays at 7:30pm with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2pm. Each performance of The Hungriest Woman in the World will be preceded by ten-minute play Paul and Petandra by DeAnna Kruger. Paul and Petandra first premiered at the the 2016 InspiraTO Festival, where it received a People's Choice Award and was featured in the Tomo Suru Players' About Love Festival in Vancouver this past June.
