This year, fans of regional Irish-Scottish band The Reel Celts' and their Christmas show will have the chance to catch them in two regional concerts Saturday, December 8th in Orillia's St. Paul's Centre, and, Sunday December 9th when they return to the Midland Cultural Centre! Their concert "A Reely Celtic Christmas", is a wonderful collection of seasonal music, both traditional and contemporary. Songs written by Joni Mitchell, Steve Earle, The Pogues, Jackson Browne and The Celts' own Nonie Thompson are blended with traditional Celtic melodies and songs, and some rollicking seasonal music!
The Celts are a topnotch ensemble of musical veterans led by Midland-Penetanguishene's own multi-instrumentalist Eugene Rea with Nonie Thompson on guitar, harmonica and vocals. The are joined by award-winning fiddler Anne Lederman, Tom Leighton on accordion, keyboards, bodhran and whistles, and, Paul Gribbon on Uillean pipes and whistles. Each bandmember sings, too!
They have toured their series of themed shows ("The Reel St. Patrick" and "The Reel Robbie Burns") celebrating Celtic music extensively throughout Ontario. In 2015, the band were invited to play at the Canadian National Highland Dance Championships in London and were heard by an estimated 10,000 people. In 2018 they were invited to play at the US Nationals in Pennsylvania. More about The Celts at: http://www.facebook.com/TheReelCelts
