The Music at Sharon Festival has confirmed more details for its beautiful summer festival, taking place at 2 PM on the last Sunday in May, and all Sundays in June at the historical Sharon Temple. The audience is invited to pre-concert chats (included in ticket price) with Rick and/or Larry at 1:30 PM in the Temple and when possible, the featured soloists. Audience members are welcome to peruse the beautiful grounds, and take in the historical displays of life from the 1820s.
May 29: The Larkin Singers, chamber choir, was founded in 2008. Founded and directed by brilliant Canadian conductor and organist Matthew Larkin, the singers in this 16-voice professional choral ensemble hail from Toronto and Ottawa and perform regularly as choristers and soloists in Canada and abroad. Choral concerts are especially riveting in the magical setting of the Sharon Temple. The Larkin Singers will perform a wide-ranging program of a cappella choral works, stretching from the Renaissance era to the present day.
June 5: Theatre of Early Music was founded by artistic director Daniel Taylor and is sought-after interpreters of mangificent yet neglected choral and instrumental repertoire from four centuries. Daniel Taylor is an exclusive recording artist for Sony Classical Masterworks, and is recognised as "Canada's star countertenor" and "Canada's most prolific recording artist". Theatre of Early Music presents a program of Arias and Duets by Handel.
June 12: The distinguished and classy Vancouver pianist Jane Coop will be in recital. "The playing is ravishing, sensual, owerful and deeply affecting", says CD Review. Jane has played solo and chamber music in over 20 countries, and is a dedicated teacher at the University of British Columbia, where she is senior professor and head of the Piano Division. In 1992, she founded the Young Artist Experience, a summer chamber music program for musical teenagers, held at UBC. YAE gives young people a wide exposure to art and life, offering studies in composition, poetry, philosophy, visual arts, music of course, and even yoga - thus proving Jane is really a west coaster despite her birth town of Saint John, New Brunswork. She will perform JS Bach's Partita No. 5 in G, BWV. 829; Beethoven's Eroica Variations Op. 35; Chopin's Impromptus No. 3 and 2; and Scriabin's Piano Sonata No. 3.
June 19: The Art of Time Ensemble was created by pianist Andrew Burashko. ATE, now in its 12th season, is known for giving classical music the contemporary relevance and context it needs to maintain a broader audience. In this more traditional concert, featured artists are violinists Erika Raum and Stephen Sitarski, with cellist Winona Zelenka. Committed to finding new ways of blending classical music with other genres as well as other art forms, each program is uniquely different in theme and content. This concert features chamber music of Arensky and Korngold.
June 26: Since its founding in 1972, the Toronto Consort has become internationally recognized for its excellence in the performance of medieval, renaissance and early baroque music. For Music at Sharon, Toronto Consort, as lead by David Fallis, present a program entitled "Shakespeare's Songbook", featuring songs and dances from the plays of the immortal bard.
