BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that theatre producer Bernard Gersten passed away this morning in his sleep. He was 97 years old.

Opera singer Ellen Chickering has died at age 77. According to Portland Press Herald, she was diagnosed with abdominal cancer at the time of her retirement in December 2019.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Peter H. Hunt, director and lighting designer for the theatre, has died. He was 81 years old. Hunt was best known as the director of both the stage and screen versions of the musical 1776. 

Bill Solly, accomplished composer, lyricist and author peacefully passed away in his home Wednesday, April 8th. Born in 1931 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Solly graduated from McMaster University in 1953 and pioneered the musical theatre division at the Banff School of Fine Arts in Alberta. Living in England for fifteen years, he wrote for many colorful celebrities and had five productions in the West End.

Alan Abel, former member of the Philadelphia Orchestra, has died due to COVID-19. He was 88.

Harold Reid, Country Music Hall of Fame member, nine-time CMA Awards winner and bass vocalist in the legendary Country Music group the Statler Brothers, passed away Friday, April 24. He was 80.

Beloved actress Shirley Knight passed away from natural causes on April 22nd at the home of her daughter, Kaitlin Hopkins, in San Marcos, TX.

René Buch, the co-founder and artistic director of Off-Broadway's Repertorio Español, has passed away at 94. The artistic leader, playwright, and director died April 19th at his home in New York.

Brian Dennehy recently passed away at 81 from natural causes. Dennehy has been associated for two decades with Chicago's Goodman Theatre, where he has starred in numerous leading roles. The Goodman has released a tribute video to Dennehy.

The Washington Post has reported that Faith Dane, the actress known for originating the role of  Miss Mazeppa in Gypsy, passed away on April 7 at age 96.
