Musical Theatre Guild presents TITANIC THE MUSICAL. Titanic the musical opened on Broadway in 1997and won five Tony Awards including the award for Best Musical.

One hundred years ago, on April 15, 1912, the RMS Titanic departed from England on its maiden voyage to New York. As vacations often do, it turned out to be more complicated than relaxing. It did not end well. On April 23, 1997, Titanic, The Musical opened at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The results were much happier: five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. The New Yorker review said "...a musical about history's most tragic maiden voyage was obviously preposterous... Astonishingly, Titanic manages to be grave and entertaining, somber and joyful... a genuine addition to American musical theatre."

THE MTG WAY -- We are often asked: "So what exactly is a 'concert staged reading' and why are the actors holding their scripts?" First, let us explain what our mission is. The Musical Theatre Guild was founded over sixteen years ago by a dedicated group of professional musical artists who were interested in exploring and preserving works from the musical theatre repertoire that were either forgotten, neglected or unfairly dismissed.

Our goal is to gather the finest talent available and to present the work in as close to the original form as possible. In order to do that within our budgets and to keep ticket prices at a reasonable level, we have found that the concert staged reading form works best. Our special agreement with Actors’ Equity allows us to focus on the script and the score, eliminate unnecessary production values, and streamline the entire rehearsal process into one focused long weekend. This enables us to take the risk to present works that other theatres would not dream to schedule and feature some of the finest talent in Southern California on our stage.

The Los Angeles Times exclaimed, "The Musical Theatre Guild fills one of the most distinctive niches in L.A. Theatre" and the Los Angeles Drama Critic Circle just honored us with the Margaret Harford Award for distinguished achievement in the theatre."

So sit back and join us as we discover or rediscover these musical treasures together.
