This theatre production, which includes a "talk back" Q&A after the show with experts in the field including (Quirky, Yes---Hopeless, No: Practical Tips to Help Your Child with Asperger's Syndrome Be More Socially Accepted) author, Cynthia La Brie Norall Ph.D., marks Aymie's first solo piece since his critically acclaimed, Child's Play and part of his "30 Shows in 30 Nights" pledge in honor and support of National Autism Awareness Month.
Heralded by the LA TIMES as, "COMPELLING... FIRST RATE...." A Child Left Behind has been an LA Weekly PICK OF THE WEEK, Bitter Lemons "Top Five Solo Production" and performed in various theaters across LA, NY as well as non-theatrical settings such as Cedar Sinai's community center and Cal State Dominguez Hills classrooms.
It was time to speak up. When LAUSD teacher and playwright Alan Aymie was given his second pink slip from the school district that he had worked in for a decade, he decided that it was time to provide a voice for the teaching professional. While painting a compelling and powerful portrait of the daily challenges that teachers face in Los Angeles, Aymie also takes a poignant look at his own experiences of trying to teach his son who was recently assessed with Asperger's syndrome. Aymie soon realized all that he knew about teaching and fatherhood would have to change.
"Here I was working to be a good teacher, yet the one child (my son) who truly needed me I couldn't reach ..." - explains Aymie
Originally serving as a fundraiser for Jenny McCarthy's GENERATION RESCUE, Aymie has teamed up with 1POWER4AUTISM, which is part of Autism Speaks as a charitable donation event.
