Conejo Players Theatre kicks off its 61st Season - featuring 11 sure-to-please productions; three more than ever before! - by bringing a truly iconic piece of American literature to life on stage ... Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, opening January 18, 2019, at 8:00pm.
Adapted by Christopher Sergel from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird opens in a sleepy Alabama town in the midst of the Great Depression - where Scout and her brother, Jem, live with their widowed father, Atticus Finch. Reminiscent of a bygone era, the play immerses audiences in a simpler time as the children play outside in the summer, act out stories, and muse about their mysterious neighbor, Boo Radley. But the facade of the seemingly peaceful town begins to crack when a young black man is accused of a terrible crime. Driven by an unshakeable moral conviction, local lawyer Atticus defends the man in a trial that sends violent waves through the community. Timeless and lingering, this hard-hitting work explores prejudice, compassion, and the courage to do what's right.
To Kill a Mockingbird is directed by Tom Eubanks and produced by Tim Holtwick. The cast includes Alan Waserman, Ronna Jones, Julia Kirkpatrick, Neirin Winter, Sharyn Grose, Carla Ames, Melanie Lindgren, Helene Benjamin-Cohen, Alan Ducker, Steve Hodge, Josh Mercer, James Miller, Dale Alpert, Dan Tullis, Catie Sayeg, Todd Tickner, Bill Sweeney, Patrick McMinn, Emmanuel Odaibo, and Rashia Whitlock. This production is rated PG.
