Continuing their historic 60th Anniversary Season, Conejo Players Theatre proudly presents West Side Story, opening July 20.
From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals -- and greatest love stories -- of all time. Arthur Laurents' book remains as powerful, poignant, and timely as ever. The score by the legendary Leonard Bernstein (celebrating his centennial in 2018) and Stephen Sondheim is widely regarded as one of the best ever written.
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to 1950s New York City as two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the "American" Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence, and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching, and relevant musical dramas of our time.
The cast includes Cameron Liljekvist and Jonathan Markham alternating in the role of Tony; Kris Bramson and Jennifer Scott alternating in the role of Maria; Cheyenne Green and Madison Ferraro Wechsler alternating in the role of Anita; Jeff Lawless as Riff; Tyler Lopez as Bernardo; Maya Galipeau as Anybodys; Dale Alpert as Doc; and Joel Tinjaca and Lyndon Apostol alternating in the role of Chino. The show is directed by Devery Holmes and produced by Stephanie Harris, with choreography by Miriam Durrie-Kirsch and music direction by Jim Holmes and Shelley Saxer. This production is rated PG-13.
