Winner of six 2010 Tony Awards, including “Best Play,” Red follows Mark Rothko in his New York studio in the late ’50s, painting a group of murals for the exclusive Four Seasons restaurant. He gives orders to his young assistant, Ken, as he mixes the paints, makes the frames, and paints the canvases. Ken, however, questions Rothko’s theories of art and why he accepted such a commercial commission. The resulting 90 minutes is an intense exercise in art, ideas... and a lot of red paint.
