The David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts (formerly the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center) presents Godspell in the Jaeb Theater, Feb. 9 - May 16.
One of the biggest musical theater successes of all time, Godspell originally opened off-Broadway on May 17, 1971. Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, Godspell is ultimately a story of coming together to create a loving community embraced by all and features a sparkling score by Grammy® and Oscar® winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked). Godspell boasts a string of popular songs, led by the international hit, "Day By Day," which reached No. 13 on the Billboard pop singles chart in the summer of 1972. Audiences will be touched by the parables and last moments of Jesus Christ, all set to a moving contemporized score of uplifting and heartfelt musical numbers.The cast is led by Craig Sculli as Jesus and Michael Indeglio as Judas and includes Jaeb theater favorites Alison Burns, Heather Krueger, Nadeen Holloway and Fred Ross. The production is directed by Rick Criswell with set design by Scott Cooper, lighting design by Joseph P. Oshry and costume design by Amy Cianci. Alison Burns is the choreographer and JP Kavenaugh serves as music director.
