Tampa Repertory Theatre will close its sixth season with Sharr White's gripping psychological drama The Other Place at Studio 120 on the University of South Florida campus. The Other Place opens June 9 and runs through June 25, with performances at 8 PM on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 PM on Sundays. Studio 120 is located at 3837 USF Holly Drive, Tampa 33620, where ample free parking is available during performances. Patrons may purchase tickets at the door or from a link on TampaRep's website at http://www.tamparep.org/other_place.
In The Other Place, a research neurologist working for a pharmaceutical company experiences a vision while giving a lecture at an exclusive beach resort, beginning a series of disorienting experiences that force her to sort truth from fiction, untangle past and present, and discover how to face the future.
In its review of the 2013 Broadway production starring Laurie Metcalf, Variety hailed The Other Place as "a haunting drama... so cleverly constructed that the nature and depth of the problem isn't revealed until the last shattering scene."
Under the direction of TampaRep Artistic Director C. David Frankel, the strong cast features Lynne Locher (TampaRep's Silent Sky), Larry Corwin (Tampa's Post Dinner Conversation improv troupe), Lisa VillaMil? (founder of the touring Now What Theatre) and Jon VanMiddlesworth (Jobsite Theater's Silence! The Musical).
Post-show discussion with learned panelists will follow the June 11 and June 15 performances.
The final play in TampaRep's sixth season, The Other Place follows popular and critically lauded productions of The Realistic Joneses and Grounded. The plays in the company's landmark seventh season will be announced soon.
