Tampa Rep is starting the new year with Tennessee Williams' first big hit, The Glass Menagerie. The production will run Thursdays through Sundays, January 10th to the 27th. Plus, get two tickets to any of the Thursday night performances for the price of one. Just email your reservations to reservations@tamparep.org.
The Glass Menagerie stars 2012 Best of the Bay Best Actress Emilia Sargent as Amanda Wingfield. Joining Sargent are Jon Gennari as her son Tom (the play's narrator), and Daniel Rosenstrauch as Jim, the Gentleman Caller. Maggie Mularz rounds out the cast as Laura, Tom's sister. The play focuses on the struggles of the Wingfield family with the failing economy of the 1930s and with each other's wishes and dreams. Williams artfully moves from comedy to pathos throughout the play, building his story with the elusive qualities of memory.
The designers facing the challenge of capturing those qualities include Amanda Bearss (Scenic Design), Jo Averill-Snell (Lighting Design), Mike and Kathy Buck Designs (Costume Design), and Anthony Vito (Sound Design). The production features original music by Igor Santos, with choreography by Crystal Solana Bryan, all under the direction of C. David Frankel.
The cast is performing again in the intimate Studio Theatre at HCC Ybor City, this time in a thrust configuration (audience on three sides of the stage), so you'll be close to the action no matter where you sit. Tickets prices remain $20 for adults and $15 for students, seniors, and military personnel. You can purchase tickets in advance on the web site (www.tamparep.org) or make reservations by email to reservations@tamparep.org.
