TampaRep has just announced its lineup for Season 6, full of innovative, provocative, classic works. Scroll down for details!
January 6th - 22nd, Grounded by George Brant (Studio 120 on the TampaUSF campus). In this one-woman play, starring Emilia Sargent, we follow a fighter pilot who, after getting pregnant and giving birth, returns to duty as a drone operator. As she does her job in the deserts of Nevada and Iraq, her worlds begin to collide in unexpected ways. Winner of The Edinburg Fringe Festival Fringe First Award, and Off-West End Theatre Award for Best Production of 2013. The Scotsman called it "a heartbreaking, beautiful, necessary and perfectly-structured solo drama. . . an essential story for our times."
June 9th - 25th, The Other Place by Sharr White (a Florida premiere). Juliana Smithton, a research neurologist now working for a pharmaceutical company, experiences an "incident" while giving a lecture at an exclusive beach resort. This incident begins a series of disorienting events for Julia, the people around her - and the audience. As her life begins to fall apart, she has to sort truth from fiction, untangle past and present, and discover how to face the future. As Variety put it, The Other Place is "a haunting drama. . . so cleverly constructed that the nature and depth of the problem isn't revealed until the last shattering scene." Filled with comic moments, the play, like Grounded and The Realistic Joneses asks "Who am I" and "How do I know."
