DR. MARY--DANG CONTRARY by BC Jones, a finalist in the Longjohns competition at Stageworks Theatre, will have a Staged Reading on Tuesday, September 15, at 7PM at the Shimberg Playhouse at TBPAC 1010 N. W.C. MacInnes Place Tampa, FL 33602. All seats are $5.00 at the door. Please call Stageworks at 813-251- 8984 for further information.

The subject of this intriguing play is Dr. Mary E. Walker, the second woman to earn an MD from an American medical school and is the only woman ever to receive the Medal of Honor, for her service in the Civil War. She was a staunch feminist, best known for wearing men's clothing, a highly eccentric activist, and a fascinating mixture of superstition, progressive ideas, practical innovations in the Postal Service, and reactionary impulses.

The author, Bartlett C. Jones, is a retired professor of American Studies. BA Swarthmore College; MA & PhD Emory University; JD University of Florida. He wrote an honors thesis on John M. Synge's plays at Swarthmore College. Is also the author of "Flawed Triumphs: Andy Young at the U.N", numerous scholarly articles, and over 100 news features. His plays have been performed at the University of Missouri Columbia and Stephens College at Columbia, Missouri
