James Johann, the "Rural Genius", was born in the Midwest during the 70's era of bell-bottom jeans, wood paneled station wagons and disco music. His childhood upbringing was significantly influenced by country music, countless bad haircuts and heavy doses of Catholic school. In 1991, after being fired from several `McJobs,' James began his standup career in Kansas City. But don't let James' boyish appearance fool you; he's a nineteen year veteran of the stand-up comedy circuit. His self-deprecating sense of humor and high-energy style all come together to create a unique onstage persona. James relies more on his brain than the profane, and his comedy often hits upon the universal theme of failure, and provides a truthful and hilarious reflection of life as he sees it.

James completed the 2003 theatre tour "Paying for the New Trailer" starring Jeff Foxworthy and Larry The Cable Guy. In July 2004 James performed in the New Faces of Comedy at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. James was featured on Comedy Central's Premium Blend which aired in 2005 and performed as part of The Slackers Tour in clubs, casinos and theatres in 2006. In 2007 he appeared on CMT's "Comedy Stage" and "Greatest Redneck Moments II". In late 2008 he was the featured comedian on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson on CBS.

Besides headlining comedy clubs, James is featured on CMT.com showcasing his "Rural Genius" videos. "Rural Genius" can also be heard regularly on radio stations around the country.
