Shorecrest Preparatory School is pleased to host the premiere of "The First," a documentary film about the life and impact of Jackie Robinson. The film is produced by Bennett Zamoff, a Shorecrest faculty member, in concert with The Jackie Robinson Project of George Washington University. The screening will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 7pm. Tickets are free and open to the public. The film is geared toward educators, families and students in third grade or older.

Featuring Tampa Bay Area students as storytellers, the film-length documentary begins with children in St. Petersburg demonstrating America's diversity in a way that Jackie Robinson only dreamed of when he became the first man to integrate baseball. Little did he know he was paving the way for the desegregation of public schools and the Armed Forces, and eventually for Civil Rights legislation.

According to producer Bennett Zamoff, "I believe that children can take that story and find relevance in it to their own lives all by themselves. If they see a man who rejected violence even when people were cruel to him and he was angry, then maybe as they get older they will find a moment when they will do the same."

The film is a production of The Jackie Robinson Project of George Washington University and will be shared free of charge with schools and educators around the country.
