Jobsite wraps their most successful season to date with Steven Dietz's quasi-historical mystery Inventing Van Gogh. This potent meditation on the nature of truth and art is on stage through August 3, 2014, in the Shimberg Playhouse at the Straz Center where Jobsite is resident theater company. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

A haunting and hallucinatory drama about the making of art, Inventing Van Gogh is the story of the final van Gogh self-portrait, painted just before the artist's death, which has never been seen ... until now.

Patrick Stone (Steve Fisher, in his Jobsite debut), a contemporary painter, is hired to forge this final masterpiece-and finds himself squaring off across the years with van Gogh himself (Jordan Foote, a recent transplant, in his Tampa Bay debut). The result is a compelling mystery about madness, the obsession to create, and the fine line that separates truth from myth. The other three actors in the play appear in both the past and present under different guises: Ned Averill-Snell as Rene Bouchard and artist Paul Gaugin, Nicole Jeannine Smith as Haley and Marguerite, and Greg Thompson as Drs. Miller and Gachet. The play takes place in two parallel universes: Stone's modern-day studio and 19th century France, where Van Gogh is nearing the end of his life. Sometimes the universes merge, putting Stone directly into conversation with Van Gogh.

Inventing Van Gogh is directed by Stageworks Artistic Director and long-time Jobsite collaborator Karla Hartley (Yellowman, The Goat), and features a set by Brian Smallheer, lights by Kaylin Gess, and costumes by Bailee Booser. Bios for all artists and more information on the production is available at jobsitetheater.org/inventing-van-gogh.

Inventing Van Gogh opens tonight, July 11 and runs through August 3, 2014. All tickets are $28. Rush tickets for students, seniors, military and Theatre Tampa Bay members are $14 and are available as of 30 minutes prior to curtain with cash and valid ID at the Straz Ticket Office window. Rush tickets are subject to availability. Preview performances will be held July 9-10, with all tickets available in advance for $14. Jobsite also has season tickets for the upcoming 2014-15 season on sale now for 30% off the price of regular tickets, a discount that expires at the end of July.
