Tampa Repertory Theatre will conclude its seventh season with Arthur Miller's blistering drama A View from the Bridge, running June 1-17. (There will be a paid preview performance on Thursday, May 31 at 8 PM.) Performances are at 8 PM on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and at 3 PM on Sundays, on the USF campus in Studio 120, 3837 USF Holly Drive, Tampa. Parking is free. Tickets are $25 ($20 student/military/senior). Patrons may purchase tickets at the door or from TampaRep's website at http://www.tamparep.org/bridge.

In A View from the Bridge, 1950s Brooklyn longshoreman Eddie Carbone and his wife Beatrice proudly agree to hide Beatrice's two cousins, undocumented immigrants smuggled in from Italy, in Eddie and Beatrice's apartment until the young men can safely settle into new lives in New York. But when Eddie's and Beatrice's young niece Catherine falls in love with one of the cousins, the secrets, suspicions, and jealousies that haunt the family and the community erupt into tragedy.

One of toughest and most powerful works from the playwright of Death of a Salesman and The Crucible, Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge has a storied production history. A 1997 Broadway revival starring Anthony LaPaglia and Allison Janney won Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Play and Best Leading Actor in a Play. For the 2009 revival starring Liev Schreiber, Jessica Hecht and a young Scarlett Johansson as Catherine, Johansson won a Tony. And in 2015, a vivid reimagining of the play first performed at the Young Vic in London and starring Mark Strong and Nicola Walker transferred to Broadway, winning Tonys for Best Revival of a Play and Best Director of a Play.

Helmed by TampaRep Artistic Director C. David Frankel, A View from the Bridge stars Ned Averill-Snell (TampaRep's The Iceman Cometh), Emilia Sargent (Theatre Tampa Bay Awards winner, Outstanding Lead Actress, for TampaRep's Grounded last season) and Michael Mahoney (Theatre Tampa Bay Awards winner, Outstanding Lead Actor, for TampaRep's The Iceman Cometh in 2016). The large cast also features Hannah Anton, Nick Hoop, Nathan Jokela, Jeff Lukas, Nathen VanZile and Larry Corwin.

"A View from the Bridge was written in the 1950s, and yet, it's as timely today as ever," said Frankel. "The plight of the undocumented immigrants, the struggle of first-generation Americans to secure their share of the American dream, the dichotomy of idealism and corruption in the longshoreman's union, and the brittle web of desire and disappointment in the family all percolate through Miller's story with as much resonance as any contemporary drama I know."
