Wind That Shakes The Barley will focus on Irish, Scottish, English, Scandinavian, and Klezmer tunes with discussion about how they are related. The audience will have an opportunity to hear some of the more unusual instruments such as hammered dulcimer as well as fiddle, flute, mandolin, whistle, tenor banjo, percussions and guitar.

Wind That Shakes The Barley is named after a traditional Irish tune. Group members are: Bill Dudley on guitar, Kathy Aagaard on fiddle, Sarah Mitchell on flute, whistle and hammered dulcimer and John McEwen on mandolin, tenor banjo, and percussion.

The Wind That shakes the Barley has been active in the state of Florida since 1979, playing traditional music of the British Isles as well as American folk music, especially the music of the New England Contradance tradition. They have worked with many folk-oriented organizations in the state including the Dunedin Scottish Highland Games, Sarasota Scottish Dancers, Tampa Friends of Old Time dance, the Irish Step dancers from Ft. Pierce and Jacksonville and have made regular appearances at the annual Florida Folk Festival. In addition, the group has participated in reenactment ceremonies in historic St Augustine, providing authentic music for the Illumination and Nightwatch activities.

Barley is proud to have been one of the first groups in the state of Florida to perform this music. Each member of the group has learned his/her craft through continuing interaction with traditional performers and other folk music sources, and truly enjoys helping to keep this tradition alive. Group members have regularly attended or are on staff at the Augusta Heritage Arts Center in Elkins, West Virginia and the Swannanoa Gathering in North Carolina. Here they have close contact with practitioners of many varied musical traditions and have had the opportunity to study with some of the finest traditional Celtic musicians in the world.

Featured Gallery artists: Bob Haught and Patti Lakke (April 1-15)
