MAD Theatre of Tampa Announces Auditions for CABARET

MAD Theatre of Tampa, Inc. is now holding auditions for their upcoming musical CABARET. Performance dates are June 9 - June 25, 2016, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 2:00 p.m., at The Straz Center for the Performing Arts. Check out full audition details below!


Round One: Audition Information

Saturday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m.

The address for auditions and arrival time will be provided after an RSVP is received.
You will also receive an Audition form to complete prior to coming to audition.
Walk-ins for auditions will not be permitted.
We will attempt to accommodate your preferred date.
However, we will need to insure that each night is manageable and fair to all candidates due to high turnout. Therefore we may ask you to attend on a different date. We appreciate your flexibility.
All actors are non-paid.

Audition will include 16-20 bars of music.
An accompanist will be provided.
No CD/mp3/iPod tracks may be used.
You may be asked to sing a cappella to test your vocal range.
Dress appropriately as you will be learning and performing choreography.
Headshots are preferred but not required.
Photos will be taken of each actor & dance auditions will be videotaped.
Everyone auditioning will be notified via e-mail as to their status following the final night of auditions.
All actors are expected to arrive promptly for their audition.

Character Descriptions:

N.B. All roles are available. Seeking a diverse cast to help us create the fun and permissive world of the Kit Kat Klub. Performers of all ethnicities who are comfortable with a wide range of gender expression are welcome. 18 and up.

Emcee Vocal Range: C3-C#5 - Tenor. The host at the Kit Kat Klub. Charming, naturally funny, gender fluid, sexually fluid. German accent. Strong dance and movement skills.

Clifford Bradshaw Vocal Range: A2-E4 - Baritone. American Novelist exploring his sexuality. Begins with the exuberance and optimism of a young artist; ends a little sadder and wiser.

Fraulein Schneider Vocal Range: D3-Ab4 - Alto. Landlady who rents rooms to Cliff and Herr Schultz. German accent. Past her prime but still vital. Pragmatic and kind. Some movement and light dance.

Herr Schultz Vocal Range: G2-F4 - Baritone/Tenor. Jewish proprietor of a Fruit Shop. German Accent. A romantic soul in love with Fraulein Schneider. Some movement and light dance.

Fraulein Kost/Fritzie Vocal Range: Ab3-F5 - Alto/Mezzo. Kit Kat Klub girl who rooms with Fr. Schneider. She sells sexual favors to sailors for extra cash. German Accent. Strong dance skills. See Kit Kat Klub Girls, below.

Sally Bowles Vocal Range: A3-C5 - Belting Soprano. British chanteuse at the Kit Kat Klub. British Accent. She's a headliner - charming, flirtatious, knows how to get her way. Is aware of the dark underbelly of humanity, but usually chooses to focus on the pretty aspects of life.

Ernst Ludwig Any Vocal Range. May sing with the chorus at times. Friendly German smuggler. German Accent. Light dance and stage movement.

Kit Kat Klub Boys and Girls and Ensemble Vocal Range: Varies - Ensemble Singers. The chorus line of the Kit Kat Klub. Strong dance skills required. Comfortable with a wide range of gender and sexual expression - including drag. Members of the ensemble will play a variety of roles over the course of the show and be instrumental in creating the overall cabaret atmosphere of the show.

Round Two: Call Back Audition

Monday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m.

Rehearsal and Performance Dates

Mandatory First Cast Gathering on Monday, March 14th.
Rehearsals are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week from 6:30pm to 10pm, from March 14th - June 9th. There will also be a few Friday and Saturday dance rehearsals. First Dance rehearsal Saturday March 12th.
Please bring your calendar to auditions so that you can communicate any conflicts you will have with the rehearsal schedule.

All performers are expected to sign an agreement to abide by the policies set by the Board of Directors of mad Theatre of Tampa, Inc.
