Now entering its 28th year, Broadway Theatre Project (BTP), a program described by Playbill as "The world's most prestigious musical theatre arts education program for high school and college students", announces Pamela Cooper of The Cooper Company will join the visiting faculty team. BTP faculty range from professional dancers and choreographers to vocal coaches and directors.
Pamela graduated with a Masters of Fine Arts from UCLA, Magna Cum Laude and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ithaca College. She began her career as a lighting and special effects designer at the internationally famous Music Center in Los Angeles. Pamela designed shows at the Mark Taper Forum, Ahmanson, Kennedy Center, in Las Vegas, on Broadway, and soon after traveled with top entertainers all over the world producing and promoting their concerts. Pamela's first management clients were the award-winning Ben Vereen and director/ choreographer Michael Peters. Some of her theatrical producing credits include the Broadway Hit Come From Away, On The Town, My Old Lady, Leap of Faith, Off-Broadway's Be by Mayumana, and co-producing Galas with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Currently she is developing new musicals and plays for Broadway and managing the best talent in the world including but not limited to director/choreographers Josh Bergasse, Lorin Latarro, Ballerina Sara Mearns, Director Scott Schwartz, Sean Cheesman, book writer Clifford Irving, mega talent Ben Vereen. The Cooper Company is currently represented by such musicals as Waitress, Smoky Joe's Café, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the upcoming feature film Mary Poppins Returns and the new Broadway bound musical written by Stephen Schwartz, directed by Scott Schwartz, choreographed by Sean Cheesman, The Prince of Egypt.
BTP Artistic Director Debra McWaters commented, "We are thrilled to have Pamela on board for BTP 2018. Pamela has had a distinguished career full of successful partnerships and projects. At the helm of The Cooper Company, Pamela and her team seem to be at the forefront of Broadway entertainment today and I know she will make an indelible impression on our students."
BTP is accepting applications for its 2018 summer institute being held July 8-29, 2018. To apply to become an apprentice, students must complete and send an application form available on www.broadwaytheatreproject.org, along with a recorded audition to Debra McWaters at flodecarlo@aol.com. Space is still available one a case by case basis (unless live audition has been previously scheduled).
