Lake Worth Playhouse to Offer Summer Camps

The Lake Worth Playhouse will be kicking summer into high gear as the focus of programming turns to center on children with summer camps.

Campers will learn acting, voice, dance and stage movement through daily activities and rehearsals, which culminate in full-scale productions of popular musicals including 101 Dalmatians Kids and Fame Jr. 

"Summer production camps are the best way to introduce youth to performing arts. Not only do they get to perform live on stage in popular musicals, they create lasting friendships and gain self-confidence regardless of their previous experience in acting, singing, and dancing. I know this from first-hand experience-it was how I was introduced to theatre-and year after year, the shyest kids on the first day are the ones that are the biggest hams in the production," says HavreDe Hill, Education Director.

Campers will be engaged in studio-style rehearsals for music, dance and production. Campers 12 and older will also have the opportunity to participate in behind-the-scenes roles and other theatre-related educational opportunities including internships and apprenticeships directly under industry professionals.

Camp opportunities include three week camp and one week camp experiences:

 

101 Dalmatians Kids, 3 Week Camp
June 11 - 29
Join all the dogs of London, as they daringly rescue the puppies from Cruella and her bumbling henchmen.  With a delightfully fun score, lovable characters and one of the most deliciously evil villains in the Disney canon, this stage adaptation is certain to charm and delight. Performances will be available for friends, family and the public the last week/weekend of camp.
Mondays - Fridays, 9am - 3pm, Ages 8+, Maximum Capacity: 30 Children

 

One Week Wonder, 1 Week Camp
July 9 - July 13
Act-Sing-Dance in this one week musical production workshop! A role for every student will be provided.
No experience necessary. Space is limited. Possible titles to include: The Eye of the Tiger and The Adventures of Harriet Putter. Performance title will be chosen based on student enrollment and interest. A performances will be available for friends and family the last weekend of camp.
Mondays - Fridays, 9am - 3pm, Ages 8-14+, Maximum Capacity: 12Children

 

Fame Jr., 3 Week Camp
July 16 - August 4
Set during the last years of New York City's High School of the Performing Arts, Fame Jr. is the bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work. With candor, humor and insight, this show explores the issues that confront many youths today. Performances will be available for friends, family and the public the last week/weekend of camp.
Mondays - Fridays, 9am - 3pm, Ages 11+, Maximum Capacity: 30 Children

August 6 - 10

  • 3 Week Camp Tuition: $600 (discounts available for siblings)
  • 1 Week Camp Tuition: $200 (discounts available for siblings)
