Jobsite's 20th Kicks Off With HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH ImageJobsite Theater kicks off their 20th Anniversary Season with the groundbreaking, Obie and Tony Award-winning cult-hit rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, playing Aug. 17 - Sep. 9 in the Shimberg Playhouse at the Straz Center where Jobsite is resident theater company.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch tells the story of "internationally ignored song stylist" Hedwig Schmidt, a fourth-wall smashing East German rock 'n' roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation, leaving her only "an angry inch."

This outrageous and unexpectedly hilarious story is dazzlingly performed by Hedwig (née Hansel) in the form of a rock concert/stand-up cabaret routine backed by her husband Yitkhak and the hard-rocking glam band "The Angry Inch." It's a rollercoaster ride: funny, touching, and ultimately inspiring to anyone who has felt life has given them an inch when they deserved a mile. Hedwig and the Angry Inch has been an Off-Broadway cult hit for over two decades and enjoyed its first Broadway run in 2014 in a version starring Neil Patrick Harris.

Jobsite sold out the entire run of their 2013 production, and it was honored with four Best of the Bay Awards from Creative Loafing Tampa including "Most Winningly Shameless Actor" and "Best Theater Rockers." Hedwig and the Angry Inch reunites the 2013 stars Spencer Meyers (Hedwig) and Amy Gray (Yitzhak) as well as drummer Woody Bond. The new incarnation of "The Angry Inch" features veteran regional musicians Jeremy Douglass (The Florida Bjorkestra, The Threepenny Opera, LIZZIE) as musical director and keyboardist, Mark Warren (Sara Rose Band, The Threepenny Opera, LIZZIE) on guitar, and Nader Issa (Oak Ramble, LIZZIE) on bass. Set and lights are furnished by Brian Smallheer, costumes by Katrina Stevenson, and make-up design by Lindsay MacConnell. The show is directed by Jobsite Producing Artistic Director David M. Jenkins, who also provides the video design. Hedwig features music and lyrics by Stephen Trask and a book by John Cameron Mitchell.

"just plain fun ... loud and rousing ... surprisingly tender" - Creative Loafing
Hedwig and the Angry Inch plays Aug. 17 - Sep. 9, 2018. Tickets start at $29.50 and increase by performance based on demand. Preview performances will be held Aug. 15-16 at 8pm, with all tickets starting at $18. Hedwig is only available right now through JobsiteTheater.org as part of a season pass for all six shows.
