Jobsite Theater, resident theater company of the Straz Center, is excited to once again collaborate with internationally-renown playwright, poet, and film-maker Israel Horovitz on his play Gloucester Blue, which runs May 19 - June 11, 2017, in the Straz's Shimberg Playhouse.

Stumpy and Latham are working-class housepainters in Gloucester, Massachusetts (home to Horovitz's theater company and the setting of many of his plays). Husband and wife Bummy and Lexi are their upscale clients. Blue may be the color being painted on the walls, but blood-red and blackmail emerge as dominant hues of the palette in this darkly comic drama.

Hang onto your drop-cloths because Horovitz is about to take you into a story painted with seduction, betrayal, and deceit. Who will cash in their paint chips first and take the fall? Who will be left standing when the last lies are told? With themes of gentrification, economic inequality, and infidelity this pitch-black comedy will surely feel right at home here in the Tampa Bay area!

International award-winning playwright, poet, and film-maker Israel Horovitz calls the region and Jobsite Theater home for a portion of the year. Both he and the company look forward to building on the success of last season's gripping Theatre Tampa Bay Recommended production of Lebensraum, hailed a high critical success by regional critics and described "as good as it gets" from an ecstatic playwright who was in residence through opening weekend. Jobsite's association with Horovitz also earned them a 2016 Creative Loafing Best of the Bay Award for "Best Link with the Greater Theatre World."

Gloucester Blue stars Ned Averill-Snell (Lebensraum) as Latham, Landon Green (Almost an Evening) as Stumpy, Georgia Mallory Guy (The Maids) as Lexi, and Jobsite newcomer Drew Smith as Bummy. The play is directed by Producing Artistic Director David M. Jenkins and features designs by Brian Smallheer (set), Ryan Finzelber (lights), and Summer Bohnenkamp (costumes) with fight direction by Dan Granke.

Gloucester Blue runs May 19 - June 11, 2017. Tickets start at $28. A season pass for the remaining two Jobsite plays this season is also available for 20% off the price of regular tickets. If available, rush tickets for students, persons 65+, military/veterans and their dependents (Jobsite is a proud Blue Star Families member), Theatre Communications Group and Theatre Tampa Bay members are 50% off as of 30 minutes to curtain with cash and ID at the Straz Box Office window. Opening night on Fri., May 19 includes pre-show treats from Rollin' Oats Tampa and a post-show party at The Refinery. Special preview performances are May 17-18 with all seats just $14. Tickets are available at JobsiteTheater.org, by calling 813.229.7827, or from the Straz Center Box Office.
