Giles Davies, David Jenkins and More Lead CLOUD 9 at Jobsite Theatre

Jobsite Theatre is excited to announce complete casting for Caryl Churchill's Cloud 9, closing our season this July! The show goes into rehearsal in June. Immediately next up is Martin McDonagh's A Skull in Connemara in March (casting already announced and going into rehearsal on Feb. 6) and then Israel Horovitz's Gloucester Blue (still in casting).

Witnessing this brilliant comedy is a sure-fire mental workout. Think of it as a zany Brit-com meets a Women's Studies doctoral dissertation with more than a healthy dose of Brecht's Epic Theater thrown in for good measure. Caryl Churchill sets in motion characters whose sexual identities and alliances shift constantly. She asks audiences to accept that most of the characters make an impossible leap in time, from colonial Africa in the Victorian age to contemporary Britain. She then asks audiences to ignore the fact that certain men are played by women, certain women are played by men, children can be played by adults and that even black can be white. The first act takes place in a British colony in Africa during the 1800s with the second act set in modern London, however, for the characters in the play only 25 years passes between the acts.

Actor 1: Clive (Act 1), Cathy, Soldier (Act 2) - Giles Davies

Giles has been a company member with Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival for 14 seasons, traveling back and forth from there to the Tampa Bay area. Favorite roles with Cinci Shakes include The Elephant Man, Much Ado About Nothing, Dracula, and a solo Frankenstein, The Modern Prometheus. He was seen in The Gorilla Theatre production of The Lion in Winter, where he also performed one of his solo shows, Charles Dickens: The Uncommercial Traveler for the Theatre Ybor (HCC), A Midsummer Night's Dream with freefall Theatre, and Death & the Maiden with A Simple Theatre. With Jobsite he has previously been seen in Twelfth Night, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Macbeth, Fahrenheit 451, Quills, and in his one-person show POE. He enjoys teaching and traveling, and was an adjunct professor at The University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music and Drama. Other favorites include Coriolanus, Macbeth, Richard III, Iago in Othello, Caliban in The Tempest, Vladimir in Waiting for Godot, Trofimov in The Cherry Orchard, and Lady Bracknel in The Importance of Being Earnest.

Actor 2: Betty (Act 1), Edward (Act 2) - David Jenkins

David is the Producing Artistic Director and a co-founder of Jobsite. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication (Performance Studies) from the University of South Florida, an M.F.A. in Acting from the University of Florida, and a B.A. in Theater Performance, also from USF. He has additionally studied with Moscow State University, the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and the San Francisco Mime Troupe. David teaches in both the Theater department and Honors College at USF as an adjunct instructor. He has recently directed productions of As You Like It, LIZZIE, The Maids, SILENCE! The Musical, Annapurna (with Summer Bohnenkamp), and Twelfth Night for Jobsite as well as Annie Baker's The Aliens for Stageworks Theatre. He was honored to be directed by Israel Horovitz in his play Sins of the Mother (Frankie/Philly Verga), and was also recently in Time Stands Still (James), The Hound of the Baskervilles (Dr. Watson) and The Lonesome West (Coleman). The latter earned him a Theatre Tampa Bay nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor, recognition as a Top 9 performance of 2013 by Creative Loafing's Mark Leib, and the Best Actor Award in CL's Best of the Bay Reader's Poll. He was the 2014 recipient of the Best Director Award from CL's Reader's Poll and Best Director of a Musical in the BroadwayWorld Tampa Regional Awards, he also won the 2015 BroadwayWorld Regional Award for Best Actor (Times Stands Still). Creative Loafing has twice honored him as both Best Artistic Director and Best Actor. David has published articles in the scholarly journals Text & Performance Quarterly, Liminalities, and Departures in Critical Qualitative Research. He lives in Tampa Heights in a neat old house with his rad wife and a mess of critters.

Actor 3: Joshua (Act 1), Gerry (Act 2) - Spencer Myers

Spencer is an Artistic Associate and ensemble member currently on his ninth season with Jobsite Theater. The Tampa native also doubles as visual artist within the Bay area. Actor 4: Edward (Act 1), Betty (Act 2) - Tatiana Baccari

Tatiana is an actor, writer, and director. Acting credits include Measure for Measure (Pompey/Playroom Theater), Money Lab (HERE Arts Center), One Slight Hitch (u/s, American Stage), All's Well That Ends Well (Helena/NYU), and Marriage of Figaro (Atlantic Stage 2) among others. She directed a production of Midsummer (Alchemical Theatre Lab) last winter and is working on an experimental post-feminist adaptation of Hamlet to be previewed in Fall 2017. Founding member of the theater collective Experimental Bitch Presents. 2015 Jeff Norton Dream Grant recipient for playwriting. Actor 5: Maud (Act 1), Victoria (Act 2) - Amy Gray

Amy is an Artistic Associate with Jobsite whose previous shows include SILENCE! Play (Kristin) and Embedded (June/Kitten). Other notable shows include Straz Center productions of Disenchanted! (performed as both the Snow White and Sleeping Beauty understudy) and Boeing, Boeing (Gretchen), Asolo Repertory Theatre's pre-Broadway run of A Tale of Two Cities: A Musical, American Stage's RENT, Gorilla Theater's Side Show and Stagework's The Shape of Things. She now splits her time between Denver, CO and Tampa Bay, and recently made her #DenverDebut in The Edge Theater Company's production of The Nance (Joan). Katrina most recently appeared onstage with Stageworks in THE GREAT GATSBY as Myrtle, PSYCHO BEACH PARTY as Marvel Ann, The Jobsite Theater in THE MAIDS as Claire, in the title role of Sarah Ruhl's ORLANDO, and as Mrs. Van Buren in INTIMATE APPAREL with American Stage. Actor 7: Harry Bagley (Act 1), Martin (Act 2) - Hugh Timoney

Hugh Timoney is newly arrived to the Tampa Bay area having relocated from New York. He was recently seen in Jobsite's The Underpants and Tampa Rep's production of The Iceman Cometh. New York credits include: The Country Wife, An Ideal Husband, Tartuffe, The Winter's Tale, The Way of The World, Blithe Spirit, Galileo, Pinocchio, A Doll's House (Franklin Stage Co.); Little Eva (Oracle Theater); Six Degrees of Separation, Art, Talley's Folly, Our Town (Leatherstocking Theatre Co.); Man of LaMancha, The Real Thing (Orpheus Theatre). He has also appeared in productions at the West Kortright Center, Hartwick College (World Premier of Derek Walcott's The Ghost Dance) as well as on public television and radio. Hugh holds a BS in Theater from SUNY Brockport. He has studied acting in NYC and has appeared Off Off Broadway: Provincetown Playhouse (Night Over the Tiber), Ward Nasse Gallery (Antigone).

Cloud 9 is directed by Gavin Hawk, Producing Artistic Director for A Simple Theater, who has previously directed Closetland and The Last Night of Ballyhoo for Jobsite. Katrina Stevenson will also provide costume designs.
