Florida Studio Theatre announces their participation in The Art of the Costume "Reinvented", a costume exhibit through the State College of Florida. The exhibit takes places from September 6, 2013 through October 16, 2013 and is free to the public. This exhibition is a showcase for outrageous, extreme and sometimes unconventional theatrical costumes, created from non-traditional and or recycled materials. An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 from 6pm - 8pm at the Fine Art Gallery at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th Street West.
FST chose to work on The Lady of the Lake from the upcoming production of Monty Python's Spamalot. Costume Shop Manager, Susan Angermann, along with her design team Sarah Bertolozzi, Caroline Carmagnole, Mary Rathell, and Caitlin Dalton created their concept and went to work gathering materials. Angermann said, "We started brainstorming as a group and came up with a list, limited to a certain color palette that we could use. Then we each went out into the community to find the materials we needed. It wasn't a difficult process, it was easy! It was very collaborative and everyone brought creative ideas and enthusiasm to the project. We're so happy to participate in this community event and are looking forward to the exhibition."
The Lady of the Lake in Monty Python's Spamalot, while based off the Arthurian Legend, is a bit more of a diva and powerhouse. While aiding Arthur and his knights, her traditional mysticism is paired with a leading lady attitude and delightful quirkiness of Monty Python. FST's design team has created a design embodying the showgirl quality of the Lady of the Lake while emphasizing Monty Python's comic style.
Other participants include: SCF Studio 84 Productions, Asolo Conservatory, Asolo Repertory Theatre, Island Players, The Sarasota Ballet, The Glenridge Performing Arts Center, The Players of Sarasota, Theatre Odyssey, Venice Theatre and Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe.
FST's Lady of the Lake will be on display from September 6, 2013 through October 16, 2013.
