FST to Host Robert Pinsky's Favorite Poem Project, 5/11

Florida Studio Theatre and Bookstore1Sarasota will host Robert Pinsky, former United States Poet Laureate, and his community Favorite Poem Project on May 11 at 2:00pm at FST's Keating Theatre (1241 N. Palm Avenue in Downtown Sarasota). The event is part of FST's Sarasota Festival of New Plays, which celebrates the continued life of emerging playwrights, writers and poets over a two-month period every spring. 

Mr. Pinsky says, "Local Favorite Poem readings allow diverse members of a single community to come together for an afternoon or evening to share unique, personal treasures: the poems they love."

More than 1000 Favorite Poem readings have already taken place throughout the United States. Created by Robert Pinsky during his tenure as the United States Poet Laureate, The Favorite Poem Project is an opportunity for the Sarasota community to celebrate poetry.

At the event, members of the Sarasota community will read aloud their favorite poems - perhaps a poem they grew up with, poems that hold special meaning from an important part of their lives, or poems they have recently discovered by contemporary poets. Robert Pinsky will emcee the event. Tickets to attend the event are $25 and include entry into the event, a copy of Robert Pinsky's newest book of Selected Poems, and a book-signing afterward. FST and Bookstore1 are accepting submissions to the Favorite Poem Project.  The poem must have been published by an established poet.  Submissions are being accepted at Bookstore1Sarasota (1359 Main Street) or by email (georgia@bookstore1sarasota.com).
