The ever-inventive Cirque Mechanics present Pedal Punk, a Steampunk inspired acrobatic whirlwind performance, coming to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Friday, April 22nd at 8:00pm. Cirque Mechanics was founded in 2004 by Chris Lashua after the success of his project with the Circus Center of San Francisco, Birdhouse Factory. From there, Cirque Mechanics quickly established itself as a premier American circus, with its inimitable approach to performance, inspiring storytelling and innovative mechanical staging.

In Pedal Punk, cycling is the escape from technology-obsessed society. Experience excitement, artistry and thrill as a wacky bike shop mechanic ends up repairing much more than broken bike parts; he creates phenomenal machines that come to life and inspire the cyclist in all of us. Pedal Punk features Creative Director Chris Lashua's vast experience both on a BMX bike and inside a German Wheel, as well as his innate passion and fascination for all things bicycle and cycling. The interaction between man and machine, the trademark of Cirque Mechanics, is magnificently on display in Pedal Punk. It is that synergy that The New York Times called "exceptional, evocative, eye-catching and grossly entertaining...in a word, excellent."

Tickets are $20-$60 and are available at VanWezel.org, the Box Office, or by calling 941-953-3368.
