Now entering its 28th year, Broadway Theatre Project (BTP), a program described by Playbill as "The world's most prestigious musical theatre arts education program for high school and college students", announces some of the 2018 visiting faculty, including BTP's own successful alumni. BTP faculty range from professional dancers and choreographers to voice coaches and directors.
BTP Alum Melinda Sullivan is an American dancer, choreographer and actress. She is known for her work on the U.S. version of "So You Think You Can Dance," where she was a finalist in the television series' seventh season, and as the 2012 winner of the Capezio A.C.E. Award. Sullivan most recently danced on the "87th Annual Academy Awards," portraying herself from the hit movie musical, "La La Land." Dance magazine refers to Sullivan as, "The first tapper to break the sound barrier of So You Think You Can Dance.." The New York Times states, "Ms. Sullivan, with a sly smile and a sense of wonder ... [is] a choreographer and a dancer of high ability and polish."
Another BTP Alum Katy Mixon is an American actress who began her career playing supporting roles in films such as "The Quiet," "Four Christmases," and "State of Play," before landing the female leading role in the HBO comedy series "Eastbound & Down." Mixon recently played Melissa McCarthy's sister on the CBS sitcom "Mike & Molly." Currently, she stars as Katie Otto, the leading character in the ABC hit-comedy series "American Housewife."
In addition to two distinguished BTP Alumni, the Broadway Theatre Project is ecstatic to have British-born Warren Carlyle join the 2018 faculty. Carlyle is a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award-winning director and choreographer for productions on Broadway and beyond. Credits include but aren't limited to: The upcoming 2018, as well as existing Broadway productions of Kiss Me, Kate and Smokey Joe's Café; Hello, Dolly! (2017), She Loves Me (2016), On the Twentieth Century (2015), After Midnight (2013), A Christmas Story: The Musical (2012), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (2012), Finian's Rainbow (2009), and A Tale of Two Cities (2008) on Broadway.
