It's always exciting when a new theatre company creates its home in Tampa Bay.
When the vision and the debut season is as strong as Vivid Theatre Productions, a semiprofessional theatre company founded by local actor Drew Eberhard, the thrill is deeply intensified.
With a solid background working in theatre and Bachelor's degree in theatre from Ball State University in Indiana, Drew is looking to take his company to the next level. The antithesis to often overdone themes and productions, Vivid Theatre Productions' first season will showcase and empower women and in his second season, speak to revolt and revolution.
A traveling company, Drew is giving his audience a taste of what is to come with the musical cabaret Broadway Miscast, a fundraiser for the inaugural season. One night only, July 24 at Powerstories Theatre, it features some of the best voices on Tampa Bay musical theatre scene.
Starring Brilee Gold, Sean McKinley, Heather Mendoza, Kidany Camillo, Lena Morrisseau, Jason Ensor, Erica Garraffa, Topher Warren, Chonesty Montgomery, Sonali Balan, Bri Filippelli, and Drew, Broadway Miscast is not your typical cabaret. A cast from teen to adult is singing parts for the opposite gender.
"We are taking popular known Broadway songs and we flip them, giving a performer a chance to sing a role that they normally wouldn't get cast in singing," said Drew. "This show is a benefit cabaret for the launch of the theatre company."
Broadway Miscast is an entertaining mix of twenty-six different Broadway shows, a diverse variety from Pippin and Newsies to Hadestown and Hamilton.
"This show gives people the chance to sing the songs they may sing behind closed doors or in the shower," said Drew. "They have been doing similar events in New York. They take popular actors and actresses from Broadway and give them the chance to sing in roles they normally would never get to do. We are doing a mix of comedy and emotional songs and all of act two are inspiring songs. It's about giving that feeling of inspiration and triumph, and warming people's hearts."
His inaugural production is Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage at Stageworks Theatre on September 6-15.
Vivid Theatre Productions Broadway Miscast is one night only on Wednesday, July 24 at 830pm at Powerstories Theatre, 2105 West Kennedy Boulevard. Tickets are $25.
