Hangin' With Steve: A Sondheim Cabaret, is set to bring the voices of the American Stage Youth Ensemble to Tampa Bay audiences on January 11. Playing three performances only, this limited engagement will benefit American Stage Education's Community Programming, which lost 80 percent of it's funding this year due to state funding cuts. American Stage's Education Department's community programming brings theatre education to populations underserved by the arts at no cost to the students or their families.
Hangin' With Steve: A Sondheim Cabaret, will feature music from many classic musicals such as Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Assassins, and Sunday in the Park with George among others composed by Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim, one of the greatest musical theatre composers of our time, has won an Academy Award as well as multiple Tony Awards for his work. Directed by two Bank of America Student Leaders, Ben Jenkins and Sarabeth Newmark, this production promises to be a unique evening of music.Hangin' With Steve: A Sondheim Cabaret marks the fifth performance of the American Stage Youth Ensemble - a select group of advanced teen theatre students who have participated in American Stage Summer Camp programming. The Ensemble meets weekly to continue their theatrical training at American Stage. A new class of Youth Ensemble members will be invited to join the group in September.Photo credit: Walter McBride
