American Stage's Summer Theatre Education Programming is now open for enrollment for children and teens. These programs are designed for beginners as well as for students who are already active in the performing arts. Classes focus on developing the student's performance skills, creativity, and self-confidence. Sessions range in cost from $170-$500 depending on duration. Financial aid packages are available as well as payment plans. Financial aid applications must be completed by April 30, 2013. Summer Theatre Programs will be held at First Presbyterian Church in downtown St. Petersburg - 701 Beach Drive NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33701
New summer camp programming this year includes: Improvisation! and Fractured Fairy Tales plus our most popular sessions. There are seven Summer Camp sessions available for children ages 5 - 12. Classrooms are broken down into age groups of 5-7 and 8-12.
Summer Camp meets Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm. Pre-care service (8am to 9am) is available for $25 per week and after care (3pm to 5pm) is $50 per week. A $25 discount is available for the 2nd child enrolled in the family.
The American Stage Teen Summer Institute offers five sessions for students aged 13- 17 and will also meet Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm. Sessions include Musical Theatre, Improvisation, and the Audition Workshop.

2013 Summer Camp (5-12 Years Old)
Session I - June 10-14
Drama-Rama, Dr. Seuss (5-7 year olds)
Students explore the wonderful, rhyming and creative world of Dr. Seuss. Focus is placed on expanding vocabulary, parts of speech and "playing" with words as students also learn the basics of theatre. The camp ends with a Dr. Seuss inspired performance for family and friends on Friday, June 14 at 5pm.
Improvisation! (8-12 year olds)
Explore the fundamentals of improvisation. Develop skills like creative thinking, self-confidence, listening, brainstorming, team building, empathy and communication, while having loads of fun and laughs. The camp finale is an improv performance for family and friends on Friday, June 14 at 5pm.
Session II - June 17-21
Drama-Rama, Around the World (5-12 year olds)
Students are immersed in theatrical traditions and stories from around the world. Focus is placed on expanding cultural literacy and exploring what makes each culture unique and special. Classroom age groups are 5-7 year olds and 8-12 year olds. The camp finale is a performance for family and friends on Friday, June 21 at 5pm.
Session III - June 24-28
Comedic Acting (5-12 year olds)
Make 'em laugh! Learn what makes a character funny and what makes a scene laugh-out-loud hilarious. Hone your comedic skills with improv and other exercises to help make comic characters realistic. Classroom age groups are 5-7 year olds and 8-12 year olds. The camp finale is a performance for family and friends on Friday, June 28 at 5pm.
Session IV - July 1-19 No camp on July 4th
Musical Theatre (5-12 year olds)
Immerse your child in theatre, music, dance and visual art! This camp has it all. Not only do students work to refine acting, singing and movement skills in this camp, they also design and construct their own sets and costume pieces. Students work as a true ensemble to put on a 30 minute musical. The camp finale is a performance for family and friends on Thursday, July 18 at 5pm.
Session V - July 22-26
Mystery Theatre (5-12 year olds)
Actors are detectives! We have to hunt for clues that the playwright gives us in order to effectively develop our character and tell the story. Focus will be placed on reading comprehension, critical thinking and problem solving in this camp. Classroom age groups are 5-7 year olds and 8-12 year olds. The camp finale is a mystery themed performance for family and friends on Friday, July 26 at 5pm.
Session VI - July 29 - August 2
Fractured Fairy Tales (5-12 year olds)
Campers spend the week finding new ways to interpret familiar fairy tales. In this camp, imagination, collaboration and a willingness to play are all key factors in the fun to be had. The students will create characters and short plays from the collective re-imaginings of the whole group. Classroom age groups are 5-7 year olds and 8-12 year olds. The camp finale is a performance for family and friends on Friday, August 2 at 5pm.
Shakespeare's a Blast (5-12 year olds)
Students learn about Shakespeare and his plays. They explore the language and the history of Elizabethan theatre. Classroom age groups are 5-7 year olds and 8-12 year olds. The camp finale is an abridged production of one of Shakespeare's plays on Friday, August 9 at 5pm.

Show Choir Goes Broadway (13-17 year olds)
Let your voice shine! In this program, students will form their own summer show choir. Emphasis will be placed on mastering complex harmonies, choreography, and "selling" a song. The program finale is a Broadway inspired showcase for family and friends performed on Friday, June 21 at 6pm.
Session II - June 24-28
Improvisation (13-17 year olds)
Develop your humor and comic timing! Learn how to think on your feet as you lead others. Experience how an actor prepares, motivates and listens within a scene developed in the moment. This program will inspire and expand your creative thinking and communication skills. The program finale is an improv performance for family and friends on Friday, June 28 at 6pm.
Session III - July 1-19 No class on July 4th
Musical Theatre - Seussical Jr. (13-17 year olds)
Become a triple threat! Students work with area music, theatre and dance professionals to refine both acting, singing and movement skills. Beginning with the audition all the way to the final performance, students will get a true taste of a professional production. The program finale is a full production of Seussical Jr. for family and friends performed on Thursday, July 18 at 6pm.
Session IV - July 22-August 2
Audition Workshop (13-17 year olds)
Learn what it takes to audition well! This 2-week intensive is designed to equip teens with a polished audition package, focusing on professional and college audition preparation. Students will work with professional actors and singers in a series of master classes to refine their audition song, monologues and cold reading skills. Each student's audition package will be designed specifically to their unique abilities. The workshop finale will be a showcase for family and friends on Friday, August 2 at 6pm.
No Fear Shakespeare (13-17 year olds)
Make Shakespeare come alive! Students will immerse themselves in the language and stories of the most famous playwright of all time. They will learn how to approach the text as a performer and to find themselves in the stories. The program finale is a showcase for family and friends on Friday, August 9 at 6pm.
