In honor of Academy Award winning actress Elizabeth Taylor, who recently passed away, American Stage Theatre Company has announced two efforts to commemorate her life during the theatre's run of Edward Albee's WHO'S AFRAID OF Virginia Woolf, of which she starred in the film version.
The final performance of WHO'S AFRAID OF
Virginia Woolf on April 23 will be dedicated to
Elizabeth Taylor, with part of the proceeds from ticket sales going to her favorite charities. In tribute to her efforts in combating HIV/AIDS and her support of organizations that helped those afflicted with the deadly disease, American Stage is also offering $20 off a ticket to any performance of WHO'S AFRAID OF
Virginia Woolf to patrons when they purchase a ticket to
Jonathan Larson's RENT, the quintessential musical about the AIDS epidemic in the '90s, to be performed at American Stage in the Park starting April 13.
"Considering her contribution to the art of acting and how important HIV/AIDS education was to Taylor, we felt it was imperative that we continue her legacy by giving her fans a very meaningful way to see a production of the script from which her performance won her so much acclaim and an amazing musical in the Park that is so much about a cause she held dear to her heart," said Todd Olson, producing artistic director.
WHO'S AFRAID OF
Virginia Woolf stars American Stage veterans
Christine Decker (DOUBT),
Betty-Jane Parks (A VERY MERRY UNAUTHORIZED CHILDREN'S SCIENTOLOGY PAGEANT), as well as newcomers
Matt Huffman and
Richard B. Watson.
