The McDonald Foundation Cultural Trust proudly present Premier State Ballet in The Nutcracker.
It’s Christmas Eve in the house of Dr & Mrs Stahlbaum, and the tree is being decorated by the children who are brimming with excitement about what presents they will be receiving.
Their child, Clara is delighted to be given a Nutcracker doll, and as night falls and Clara cradles her doll as she falls asleep by the Christmas tree. As the clock strikes midnight, mice as large as herself appear, the tree grows and toy soldiers appear to do battle with the mice.
The Nutcracker then appears to come alive, and with Clara’s help, is victorious in battle over the Mouse King. The Nutcracker then is transformed into a handsome prince and both he and Clara are transported to the land of the Sugar Plum Fairy where they are greeted by the Queen of the Flowers.
Clara and her prince are entertained by dances from distant lands, including the beautiful Waltz of the Flowers, an enthralling Pas de Deux, and a joyous finale and fond farewell, before finding herself back by the Christmas tree once more with her beloved Nutcracker.
Join this company of some of Australia’s best youth ballet dancers for this delightfully entertaining, classic production of a much loved favourite.
