Belvoir will stage alternating performance of two plays, Alana Valentines brand-new Wayside Bride and Caryl Churchills classic Light Shining in Buckinghamshire, featuring the same cast, on the same set, written by two legendary women. Together in rep, they present a brilliant theatrical vision of the age-old struggle for a fairer society. The rep season runs from 2nd April to 29th May 2022. Wayside Bride, drawn from living testimony, marks its worldwide debut. On a back street of Kings Cross, iconic Sydney institution the Wayside Chapel is a haven for the poor, the excluded, the misfits. Its a place of faith and a place of love. And its a place where people declare their love even when the rest of the world has turned you away. The classic work Light Shining in Buckinghamshire, by Caryl Churchill is set during the English Civil War, telling of the ordinary people who went into battle for the soul of the nation. Incendiary, pulsing with ideas and poetically-heightened speech, speaking of the revolution that never happened, and some ghosts it left behind.
