The Oscar winning film SHINE made a remarkable impact on audiences when it was released in 1996.
Based on the inspiring life story of piano virtuoso David Helfgott, it brought to the world’s attention the extraordinary acting skills of Geoffrey Rush and the directing talent of Scott Hicks, as well as heightening appreciation of the music of the romantic composer Sergei Rachmaninov.
For David Helfgott, the film’s unprecedented success enhanced the opportunity to share with audiences the joyful experience of performing on his beloved instrument.
One such memorable occasion was Helfgott’s astonishing achievement of selling out four performances in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House in October 1996.
Now, twenty years later, he returns to this world famous venue to celebrate the film’s anniversary with a solo recital of popular romantic works by Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt
One of the year’s undoubted entertainment highlights, David Helfgott in Recital will again be presented by Andrew McKinnon.
