Young Female Voices From The House That Dan Built Take Over Bondi Pavilion For A Theatrical And Musical Youth Week Image

To celebrate Youth Week during the April School Holidays, The House That Dan Built is taking over the Bondi Pavilion Gallery from 16 - 29 April with a return season of TENDER YOUNG CREATURES and a series of theatre and music skill development workshop opportunities for girls aged 9 to 20.

The House That Dan Built is a cross-age ensemble of female artists that cultivate curiosity and creativity of young female performers. From the glitzy Sydney Festival and Mardi Gras stages to the intimate nursing homes and school rooms of regional Australia, artistic director Danielle O'Keefe leads a hand-picked group of young female performers to write and voice their own stories in performances and workshops across the country.

"Just over 8 years ago while running a theatre-making workshop in a tiny rural town with teenage girls I could not get them to stand up. They were not being defiant or rebellious, they just didn't care. Apathy had eaten them alive. My heart broke a little bit that day. Over the years that followed I have heard story after story from the mouths of girls and young women that tell me we have a long way to go towards equality in this country. The House That Dan Built creates art with young women that can have a lasting impact not only on the girls who participate but society at large. We don't have to stay angry. We have ukuleles!" said Artistic Director Danielle O'Keefe.

During this April residency at the Bondi Pavilion, the wider Sydney community get the opportunity to hear these girls' stories, and girls aged 9-20 will have the opportunity to hone their creative skills and discover their storyteller voices.

"These two weeks will offer a safe environment that supports the vulnerability of the creative process and also encourages peer based learning as a way to hone and capture young girls' talents."
