Moonchild is a moving and funny new play exploring the relationships that shape us whether we are 13, 23, or 83 years old. Part space rave, part lift-off sequence, part coming of age story, the play revolves around quirky thirteen year old Moonchild, who dreams of outer space to escape the devastating loss of her best friend and the forces pulling her family apart. Moonchild will premiere at Australian Theatre for Young People on 10 August.

Moonchild is the second play from Sydney's youngest theatre company, we make theatre, founded in 2015 by 23 year old playwright Julia Patey and her artistic collaborator 13 year old actor, Scarlett Waters. we make theatre is dedicated to creating big, brave, exciting, honest theatre for young people and their grownups.

Developed and nurtured by the Australian Theatre for Young People, Scarlett and Julia have been involved in many of ATYP's most successful productions, including, Spur of the Moment, Luke Lloyd: Alienoid, A Town Named War Boy, The Trolleys and The Voices Project.

An alumna of ATYP's National Studio and National Playwriting Mentoring Scheme, Julia Patey is one of the emerging bright lights of the Australian playwriting scene. ATYP Artistic Director, Fraser Corfield says, "Julia's writing demonstrates a clear theatrical voice. There is a maturity to her writing that sets her apart from other artists her age."

Scarlett Waters first gained attention in her debut role at Griffin Theatre in Lally Katz's, Return to Earth, with reviewers lauding her debut; "the stand out performance is young actress Scarlett Waters as Catta. She is engaging, genuine and very, very funny."

Moonchild brings together two of Australia's most exciting young theatre makers, at either end of their generation, for a truly one of a kind theatrical experience.
