Audiences in regional NSW will get the chance to experience the Sydney Symphony Orchestra this May, as Australia's flagship Orchestra embarks on its major annual regional tour, travelling to Albury, Wagga Wagga and Griffith.
Sixty Sydney Symphony Orchestra musicians, along with Australian conductor Alexander Briger, will hold major public performances, as well as education and schools concerts throughout the Riverina region of NSW. SSO musicians will also work with local music students in a series of masterclasses and workshops, including a community band workshop in Griffith.
A large logistical undertaking, the tour sees the Orchestra accompanied by two tonnes of instruments, ranging from double basses and trombones through to flutes and oboes.
NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant said the NSW Government is thrilled to support the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in bringing world-class performances to the Riverina region as well as its award-winning education program to local students.
"The NSW Government is focused on ensuring regional communities have access to great artistic and cultural opportunities and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra will no doubt be enjoyed by the Riverina community."
