Winner of the NSW Premier's Literary Awards, The Serpent's Teeth is acclaimed Australian playwright, Daniel Keene's unflinching look at the true human cost of armed conflict. Spanning two narratives - Citizens and Soldiers - Sydney/London director Kristine Landon-Smith directs a 15-strong cast in a study of human frailty and the insidious effects of global tensions.

Citizens is set at the dividing wall of an unspecified war-torn country where a series of unconnected exchanges between ordinary people transpire as they go about their day-to-day lives. The second narrative, Soldiers, is set in an air force hangar in Sydney, where family members gather to receive the bodies of their sons, brothers, husbands and friends lost in a conflict that they may not have supported.

For producers Hasemann, Ball & Radda, The Serpent's Teeth is an "exciting opportunity for acclaimed director Kristine Landon-Smith to direct fifteen actors from more than nine cultural backgrounds on the intimate stage of the Kings Cross Theatre". They add "the work also continues Kings Cross Theatre's legacy of presenting globally-resonant work and creating pathways for emerging artists to develop their practice."

Daniel Keene has written for the theatre since 1979. He has written over 70 plays, both short works and full length. His work has been produced in every Australian capital city, including at the Melbourne Theatre Company, The Sydney Theatre Company, The Malthouse Theatre, The Griffin Theatre, The Seymour Centre, Theatre Works, The Sydney Opera House and La Boite. He has won numerous literary and performing arts awards including The Sydney Myer Performing Arts Award, The NSW Premier's Prize for Literature (three times), The Victorian Premier's Prize for Literature (twice), The Sumner Locke Elliot Prize and The Adelaide Festival Award for Literature. His work has been presented at the Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide International Arts Festivals. His play, The Long Way Home, was produced by the Sydney Theatre Company in partnership with the Australian Defence force and completed a sold out national tour in 2014.
